Thomas Lee Bauman
1938 - 2011

Thomas Lee Bauman age 73 went home to be with his Lord Friday December 16, 2011 at his home in Greenville.

He was born in Greenville the youngest son of Bert and Lovina Eckert Bauman on December 4, 1938. His parents, brothers Dan, Stanley and Earl and his sisters Dorothy and Irene and granddaughter Melanie all preceded him in death.

Tom graduated from Greenville High School in 1958. He married Arlene Kunz September 17, 1960 and worked factory jobs and managed Admiral gas station before realizing his talent for repairing gas engines and appliances. He worked for Gambles of Greenville and Marr's Electronics in Belding before starting his own company, Tom's Appliance Service, which was a rewarding 30 year career up to his retirement. He did service work for Frigidaire and Larry's Northtown Furniture. He also built his own house from a kit and had for hobbies; carpentry, motorcycle riding, reading, and his dog Sylvia, traveling to favorite places, Disney World, Mackinac, Frankenmuth, Shipshiwana, writing poetry, camping and remodeling. He was always willing to help and is loved by many and will be missed by all.

Tom was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

He is survived by his wife Arlene, his children; Pam Bauman of Wheeler, Tim (Karen) Bauman of Eastpointe and Tammy Clevenger of Fairhope, Alabama, his grandchildren; Matthew (Peggy) Conley, Andrea (Rickey) McDiarmid, Eric Phoenix, Aaron Bauman, Ashley Clevenger, Brandi Clevenger, Calvin Moffett, Jacob Bauman and great grandchildren, Haylee, Gracie and Max. Also surviving are his sister Janet (Don) Walston of Thompsonville and brother Robert (Arlene) Bauman of Clare and sisters-in-law, Louise (Dale) Varney, Connie (Wally) Harris both of Greenville and Debbie Rich of Sidney and nieces and nephews.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 1 PM from the Hurst Funeral Home with burial in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Rev. R. Mark Shaw of Calvary Baptist Church will serve as officiant. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Frederick E. Brown, age 58 of Howard City, died on his birthday Saturday morning, December 24, 2011. He was born December 24, 1953 in Lansing. Fred loved nature, and enjoyed gardening and animals. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Brown of Howard City; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Brent Hendricks of Hastings; uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Delores Adsit of Florida; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick E. Brown; and his grandparents, John and Emma Brown and Clarence and Mildred Adsit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2011 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing.

James Eugene Croff age 67 of Greenville passed away Wednesday December 28, 2011 under Hospice care at his home. He was born in Grand Rapids MI on January 29, 1944 the son of Edward and Viola Scribner Croff. Jim was employed at the Meijer store for over 20 years and was a former member of the Moose Lodge of Greenville and had also worked for Ed and Ned Salvage.
He is survived by his son Kevin Croff of Rockford and daughter Christina Croff also of Rockford, his grandsons, Henry James Croff and Vance David Cole and his brother Andy and sister Joanne. His daughter Gina Croff preceded him in death in 1979 as did his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 31, 2011 at 1 PM from the Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Dickson as officiant. Memorial contributions may be given to your local library.

James Steven Aper, 70 of Greenville, passed away at home Thursday, January 5, 2012 in the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. James was born November 18, 1941 in Monroe, Michigan, the son of John and Mary (Gorowski) Aper. He married Paula Taft on October 25, 1986 in Greenville. He served his country in the United States Army. James was owner-operator of PJ's Carpet Service along with his wife, Paula. He installed flooring for 38 years in Greenville and surrounding areas for Greenville Furniture, Larry's Northtown, The Furniture Shed, Millard's Furniture, and Don's Carpetland until an injury in 2005 forced him to retire. After retirement he enjoyed being with his family and taking his grandchildren for rides on the golf cart, tractor, and bobcat. He also enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and gardening with his family and visiting with friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Paula M. of Greenville; children, James (Tammy) Aper of Cedar Springs, Perry Lopes of Greenville, Jamie (Dina) Aper of Gowen, Jason (Jessie) Aper of Livonia, and Tamara (Matt) Irwin of Greenville; grandchildren, Cody, Gunnar, Austin, Gage, Chase, MacKenzie, Carter, TJ, Mattalyn, Liam, Samantha, Amanda, Miranda, and Raymond; brothers, Robert (Brenda) Aper of Perkins, Richard (Delores) Aper of Negaunee, Thomas (Karen) Aper of Perkins, and Gary (Ginger) Aper of Perkins; sister, Susan Aper of England; mother-in-law, Beatrice Osborne of Greenville; brothers-in-law, Victor (Deb) Foster of Greenville and Alan Foster of Dundee; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Virgil) Hopkins of Greenville and Kathy (Bruce) Burr of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William J. Aper. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and no funeral services will be held. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.

John E. Jeffrey Holt, MI John passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008. He was born June 17, 1928 to Lyle and Viola Jeffrey. John was a retired electrician and attended Pennway Church of God. He served in both the Navy and the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents: his son, Jerry; and his sister, Anna. John is survived by his wife, June (Townsend); children, Carol (Tom) Dzamko, Sheila Jeffrey and John II; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, George Jeffrey of Tennessee, Bob (Helen) Bigelow of Fremont, Tom (Joanne) Jeffrey of Florida; sister, Mary Lehr of Macomb; Eleanor Taylor of Ohio; Keith (Maxine) Townsend of Laingsburg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Pennway Church of God, 1101 E. Cavanaugh. Interment will follow in Alchin Farms Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lansing City Rescue Mission or to the Pennway Church of God, in memory of Mr. Jeffrey.
